What is TENCEL™? Fabric Overview
TENCEL™ Modal
TENCEL™ Modal fibers manufactured from beech wood, beech wood forests are a natural and renewable source of raw material. Certified as biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, fresh water and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature. TENCEL™ Modal fibers is known for being very soft and comfortable against the skin, exhibit high flexibility, resulting in soft and durable textile quality even after repeated washing
Why choose TENCEL™ Modal?
In addition to its exceptional comfort and quality, this fiber also helps minimize environmental impact because it is derived from wood raw materials. The fibers are certified as biodegradable, allowing them to fully return to nature
What sets our material apart from other Modal?
Unlike regular TENCEL™ Modal, we use Micro-Air Fiber TENCEL™ Modal, an original product from an Austrian company. This micro technology produces a lighter material with a smooth texture that gives a slight shiny effect (non-piled), in addition to extraordinary softness

European Ecolabel
Lenzing was the very first fiber producer worldwide to be awarded the EU Ecolabel for textile products in 2002.
The EU Ecolabel – initiated by the European Comission - is an environmental quality seal for the labelling of products and services which show a lower environmental impact and health burden over their entire life cycle than comparable products.
The formulation of criteria for awarding the EU Ecolabel takes place through consultation with key stakeholders, including consumer associations and experts in the relevant field. The criteria are determined on a scientific basis.
Lenzing is obliged to fulfill strict criteria for the EU-Ecolabel.This relates to the main environmental impacts of the product and their technical performance, including health, safety, social and ethical aspects. In addition, various aspects of the life cycle analysis (LCA) are also taken into consideration.
Lyocell, modal and viscose fibers from Lenzing are available with the flower logo. They were examined by independent experts to ensure conformity with the stringent environmental and performance criteria.
USDA Certified Biobased Product
Biobased products are created on the basis of renewable resources such as materials from agriculture, the sea and the forests, and offer an alternative to products on a crude oil basis. The certification of biobased products is part of the BioPreferred program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is designed to encourage government institutions and companies to purchase products which are biobased or consist of biological materials for the most part. All listed Lenzing fibers contain 100 percent USDA Certified Biobased Content.
Biodegradability and compostability
The certification company TÜV AUSTRIA confirms the biodegradability and compostability of Lenzing’s cellulose standard fibers according to international standards. The compostability program encompasses tests for biodegradability (chemical decomposition), ecotoxicity and harmful substances (e.g. heavy metals).
LENZING™ fibers which are TÜV certified biodegradable (soil, fresh water & marine) and compostable (home & industrial) include the following products: LENZING™ Viscose Standard textile/nonwovens, LENZING™ Lyocell Standard textile/nonwovens, LENZING™ Modal Standard textile, LENZING™ Lyocell Filament, LENZING™ Lyocell Dry and LENZING™ Web Technology. An exception in certification applies for the fiber LENZING™ Lyocell Filament, for which the necessary tests for confirming biodegradability in marine environment was not yet done.
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100
This worldwide standard ensures that about 1,000 chemicals are either not used at all or that the residues are within very tight limits in the textile production. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety. Our registration number is 74683; the validity of our certificate can be checked by entering this number underhttps://www.oeko-tex.com/en/label-check.
